Children are not just small adults. They are not always able to be patient and cooperative during a dental exam. Pediatric dentists know how to examine and treat children in ways that make them comfortable. In addition, pediatric dentists use specially designed equipment in offices that are arranged and decorated with children in mind.
- As pediatric dentists, we promote the dental health of children as well as serve as educational resources for parents. It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that a dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child’s first birthday.
- The AAPD has said that it is important to establish a comprehensive and accessible ongoing relationship between the dentist and patient – referring to this as the patient’s “dental home”. This is because early oral examination aids in the detection of the early stages of tooth decay.
- Early detection is essential to maintain oral health, modify aberrant habits, and treat as needed and as simply as possible. Additionally, parents are given a program of preventative home care (brushing/flossing/fluorides), a caries risk assessment, information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of children, diet counseling, and information on growth and development.

A fun atmosphere…
- Our practice provides a special experience from the moment a child walks through our doors. The initial feeling you get is that you just walked into a rainforest on a deserted island. There is a gigantic tree that stretches across a very large reception area. The front desk is a tiki-hut that connects an arcade, a shipwreck, a complimentary coffee bar, a movie theater, and complimentary internet station for parents.
- Each child receives a t-shirt with our crocodile logo on it and is rewarded at subsequent appointments with an extra prize if they wear the shirt.
- Each dental chair has a TV suspended over the patient for easy, relaxed viewing during their appointment.

- Our staff is warm and friendly, and explains to our patients everything that will be done that day in child-friendly terms.
- We focus on educating patients on preventive care and are sure to develop a good relationship with the patient. If the child ever needs treatment, there is a level of trust developed that makes the experience more comfortable.
- Further, Dr. Kelly’s husband is an orthodontist, and together they make sure the patients’ growth and development is monitored and minor issues are corrected before they become major problems.
