What Is ICON Resin Infiltration?

ICON resin infiltration is a gentle, non-invasive treatment used to improve the appearance of white-spot lesions (WSLs) and certain congenital enamel defects (also known as hypoplastic “hypo” spots). These white spots are often caused by weakened enamel from poor hygiene, braces, or trauma during early tooth development.

WSLs form when the balance between enamel demineralization and remineralization is disrupted, leading to porous enamel that appears white due to how light is scattered beneath the surface. Hypo spots are natural enamel defects, often related to early trauma or infection in baby teeth.

ICON resin infiltration uses a thin, color-matching resin that soaks into these porous areas and blends with the natural tooth, reducing or eliminating the appearance of the white spots in Goodyear, Arizona.

Step-by-step of ICON Resin Infiltration:

  1. Teeth are cleaned with plain pumice.
  2. The tooth surface is etched three times for 2 minutes each to open up the enamel for better resin penetration.
  3. A drying agent (ethanol) is applied.
  4. The ICON resin is applied and allowed to soak in for 3 minutes.
  5. Excess resin is removed using cotton rolls, brushes, and floss.
  6. The resin is hardened with a curing light.
  7. A second layer is applied for 1 minute, then cured again.
  8. Final polishing is done with discs or burs.
  • Mild gum whitening may occur temporarily near the gum line.
  • The entire process usually takes about 1 hour for 1–2 teeth.

Why Choose ICON Resin Infiltration?

  • Non-invasive and cost-effective compared to fillings or veneers
  • Can be done earlier than porcelain veneers (no need to wait for full growth)
  • Better whitening results — hypo spots may worsen with bleaching alone, but ICON-treated areas respond more evenly to whitening
  • Strengthens enamel and prevents cavities from progressing
